Position Overview:
As a Project Estimator, you’ll play a vital role in evaluating project costs, analyzing plans and specifications, and preparing competitive, accurate estimates to support project bids and execution. Your level of involvement and responsibility will grow with your experience—from supporting takeoffs and data entry to leading complex bid strategies and client presentations.
Key Responsibilities (May Vary by Experience):
Review project drawings, specifications, and scope documents
Perform quantity takeoffs, cost analysis, and subcontractor/vendor pricing
Develop detailed estimates and proposals for construction or engineering projects
Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and procurement teams
Maintain and update historical cost data and pricing databases
Participate in bid reviews, value engineering, and cost-saving strategies
Lead estimating efforts and mentor junior staff (senior-level roles)
Support risk assessments and project scheduling input
Qualifications:
Entry-Level:
Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field
Strong math, analytical, and organizational skills
Familiarity with construction documents and estimating software (e.g., Bluebeam, PlanSwift, Excel)
Internship, co-op, or coursework in cost estimating preferred
Mid-Level:
3–5 years of experience in estimating for construction or engineering projects
Proficient in reading plans, scopes, and technical specifications
Solid understanding of materials, labor, and equipment cost structures
Ability to manage multiple estimates and communicate with subcontractors and vendors
Senior-Level:
6+ years of experience leading estimation efforts for complex or large-scale projects
Proven ability to develop strategic bids, negotiate pricing, and work closely with executives or clients
Strong leadership, presentation, and proposal-writing skills
Experience mentoring junior estimators and contributing to overall project planning
Experience with cost databases, project scheduling tools, and market pricing analysis
Certified Professional Estimator (CPE) or similar credential is a plus
Preferred Industries:
Commercial, industrial, or residential construction
Infrastructure, civil engineering, or utilities
MEP (Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing) or systems integration
Fabrication or manufacturing projects
